Baseball Recap: Kennedy Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Century, Kennedy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the St. Paul Swordsmen, sneaking past 3-1. The Fighting Irish have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Swordsmen, too.

Anthony Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kennedy's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Travis Bergmann, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was Bergmann's first of the season.

Kennedy's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for St. Paul, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.

Kennedy will square off against Woodbridge at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Paul, they will be playing at home against Oxford Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Paul's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Oxford Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
