Basketball Game Preview: South Dade Buccaneers vs. Southwest Eagles

The South Dade Buccaneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Southwest Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Dade has three straight wins, Southwest has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

South Dade hadn't beaten Homestead on the road since November 28, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Buccaneers enjoyed a cozy 75-56 victory over the Broncos.

Rodney Holmes went supernova, dropping a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 16.5 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Carter, who shot 46% from the field en route to 16 points and three steals.

South Dade smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Southwest played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Coral Park, falling 72-42. The Eagles were down 59-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for South Dade, their record now sits at 4-1.

South Dade came up short against Southwest in their previous matchup back in November, falling 42-37. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
