After losing to North Buncombe the last time they met, Madison decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Madison Patriots put the hurt on the North Buncombe Black Hawks with a sharp 14-4 win on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Carrie Gunter was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Addie Sams, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Sams posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Gosnell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Madison back to even at 2-2. As for North Buncombe, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Coming up, Madison will challenge Avery County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Buncombe, they will square off against T.C. Roberson at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give T.C. Roberson their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
