Basketball Recap: Olathe Skates Past West Grand with Ease

Olathe won the last time they faced West Grand and things went their way on Saturday too. The Olathe Pirates really took it to the West Grand Mustangs for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-31 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Olathe was led to victory by Isaiah Gordon and Elijah Gordon. Isaiah went 9 of 19 on his way to 27 points and six steals, while Elijah went 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points and seven steals. With that strong performance, Elijah is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Almanza, who posted two points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Olathe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, West Grand still got an impressive performance from Cooper Martinson, who put up eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stran Lechman, who posted ten points.

Olathe's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-3. As for West Grand, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Olathe will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Gunnison at 4:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025. After both having extra time off, West Grand and Caprock Academy will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Caprock Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season.
