Two dominant backs in Caleb Crenshaw and Gabriel Peach are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Anderson Trojans will square off against the Hays Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Anderson's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Thursday, Anderson was fully in charge, breezing past Cedar Creek 62-3. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 21 points or more this season.
A big part of Anderson's victory came down to the chemistry between Cove Darbyshire and his top target Jay Fullmer. Darbyshire threw for 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt while Fullmer picked up 127 receiving yards and two scores. Fullmer got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 67 yards.
Anderson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 286 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.
One reason for the win was Anderson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Cedar Creek's side was Max Middleton, who picked up a sack, forced two fumbles, and made ten total tackles (6.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Hays played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by College Station and fell 52-7. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.
Anderson pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.4 points over those games. As for Hays, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Anderson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 301.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hays struggles in that department as they've been averaging 191.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Anderson strolled past Hays in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 42-26. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Hawks' Anthony Hernandez, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of TDs, and also picked up 43 receiving yards.
