Volleyball Recap: Appleton East Falls Despite Big Games from Josie Heisler and Zoe Wockenfus

Appleton East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Fond du Lac Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Appleton East started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-23.

Appleton East's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zoe Wockenfus, who had 16 digs and four assists, and Josie Heisler, who had six digs and two aces. Wockenfus is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Appleton East's loss dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Fond du Lac, they pushed their record up to 16-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Appleton East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Luxemburg-Casco on the 4th. As for Fond du Lac, they will face off against Appleton North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
