Basketball Recap: Mercy Comes Up Short

If Mercy was riding high fresh off their 54-27 takedown of Ashland-Greenwood last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mercy Monarchs fell 59-52 to the Duchesne Cardinals on Thursday. The Monarchs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in February.

When it comes to explaining why Mercy lost, don't look at Madisyn Grzebielski. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and six rebounds. Kate Beran was another key player, putting up four points and nine rebounds.

Mercy's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Duchesne, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-4.

Mercy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Axtell at 1:00 p.m. on December 30th. After both having extra time off, Duchesne and Elkhorn will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 3:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Duchesne is facing Elkhorn at the right time seeing as Elkhorn is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
