Baseball Recap: Newark Has No Trouble Against Penn Yan Academy

Newark came out on top against Penn Yan Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Reds were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Mustangs. The Reds have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Newark got a massive performance out of Michael McGavisk, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. McGavisk has become a key player for the Reds: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Jayce Baker was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Newark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory got Newark back to even at 7-7. As for Penn Yan Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark will head out to square off against Dansville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Penn Yan Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Wayne at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
