Basketball Recap: Sickles Takes a Loss

Sickles was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Colonial Grenadiers.

Despite the loss, Sickles still got an impressive performance from Kelsey Sharpe, who went 8 for 19 on her way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Sharpe has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 22 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Jones, who posted six points along with nine blocks and seven boards.

Colonial found their leader in sophomore Yaneyla Pedraza, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 22 points and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Pedraza has scored at least a third of Colonial's points. Iliana Dorvilus was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sickles' defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Colonial, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Sickles wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-50 victory against Sarasota on the 28th. As for Colonial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-28 win against Millington Central on the 28th.
