Softball Game Preview: Whitehouse Wildcats vs. Marshall Mavericks

Whitehouse is 7-1 against Marshall since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Whitehouse Wildcats will square off against the Marshall Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. Whitehouse will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitehouse faced off against Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday. Whitehouse put the hurt on Mt. Pleasant with a sharp 14-1 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.

Analee Becerra and Larkin Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Becerra scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Jones scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave Becerra a new career-high in runs. Laney Crawford was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Marshall lost 11-5 to Lufkin on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.

Addi Watkins and Maggie Pringle stepped up to the plate in a big way. Watkins went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Pringle scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Watkins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Marshall's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Whitehouse, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

Everything went Whitehouse's way against Marshall when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Whitehouse made off with a 16-1 victory. Will Whitehouse repeat their success, or does Marshall have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
