Volleyball Recap: Dawson Nguyen and Andy Ha Secure Win for Oxford Academy

Oxford Academy hadn't done well against La Quinta recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Oxford Academy Patriots narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the La Quinta Aztecs 3-2. For the Patriots, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Aztecs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Oxford Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-12.

Oxford Academy was led to victory by Andy Ha and Dawson Nguyen. Ha had 14 digs and two assists, while Nguyen had eight kills, seven digs, and three blocks. That's the most digs Nguyen has posted over his last seven matches. Ayden Nguyen also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Oxford Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. As for La Quinta, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oxford Academy will host Los Amigos at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for La Quinta, they will be playing at home against Rancho Alamitos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
