Shawn Robinson leads DeSoto past Cedar Hill in matchup of Xcellent 25 teams from Texas

DeSoto quarterback accounts for three touchdowns against Cedar Hill in battle of two of the top teams in Texas.

DeSoto (Texas) and quarterback Shawn Robinson ended a month's worth of debate as to which is the top high school football team in Texas with a 33-18 win over Cedar Hill (Texas) on  Friday.

For the first month of the season, Cedar Hill (2-1 entering the game) was ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps Football Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard, while DeSoto (3-0) was ranked higher in the Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard, coming in at No. 4 to Cedar Hill's No. 11 ranking.

Robinson put an end to the debate as he threw two touchdown passes, ran for another score and accounted for over 400 yards of offense. He completed 13 of 21 passes for 295 yards and also ran for 48 yards.

Cedar Hill quarterback Avery Davis had nearly identical stats to Robinson. He completed 22 of 36 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 46 yards. He returned after missing two games due to injury.

After the teams traded punts for most of the first quarter, Robinson hit Kadarrian Nixon for a 69-yard touchdown early in the second quarter for a 10-0 lead. Cedar Hill countered with a 28-yard field goal by Maverick Montiel, but Robinson led DeSoto on a 75-yard drive that culminated in a 10-yard pass to Emmet Perry. For the night, Perry caught seven passes for 152 yards to lead the Eagles.



Cedar Hill cut the lead to 17-10 with a 27-yard pass from Davis to Charleston Rambo. But Robinson rallied DeSoto to another touchdown before halftime, this time scoring on a 12-yard run.

A safety with two seconds left in the first half gave DeSoto the 26-10 halftime lead.

DeSoto then took the second half kickoff and drove 75 yards to extend its lead to 33-10. Robinson had a 40-yard pass to Nixon on the drive, setting up a 2-yard touchdown run by Nixon.

Davis closed the gap at the end of the third quarter with his second touchdown pass of the night, a 29-yard completion to Rambo. The pair connected again for the 2-point conversion to make it 33-18, but neither team was able to score the rest of the way.
