Softball Game Preview: Western Panthers vs. Oak Hill Golden Eagles

The Western Panthers will head out to square off against the Oak Hill Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Western is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.

Oak Hill's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Wednesday: Western hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand Westfield a 2-0 shutout on Monday.

The result came thanks to Lucy George's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brynley Erb was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played.

Western hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Oak Hill came out on top against Heritage Christian on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-0 win. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Western pushed their record up to 22-3 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Everything went Western's way against Oak Hill when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Western made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
