Baseball Game Preview: St. John Heralds vs. Cardinal Huskies

The St. John Heralds will head out on the road to take on the Cardinal Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on St. John, who comes in off a win.

St. John came out on top against Edgewood on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Heralds never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Heralds, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jack Collins was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Cole, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

St. John always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edgewood only posted an OBP of .294.

Cardinal might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-4 to Harvey, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

St. John is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Cardinal, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

St. John got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Cardinal by a conclusive 14-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Heralds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
