Baseball Recap: New Washington Takes a Loss

New Washington extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They lost 22-2 to the Southwestern Rebels. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Southwestern, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won five matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

For Southwestern's part, Braxton Lewis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Southwestern got a massive performance out of Jeter Chatham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The Rebels are undefeated when Chatham posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Adith Arunsanhar also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Washington will venture away from home to challenge Switzerland County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pacers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Southwestern, they are taking a road trip to square off against Milan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
