Baseball Recap: Richton Takes a Loss

Richton came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 17-5 to the Greene County Wildcats. The Rebels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Richton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gaige Everett, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave Everett a new career-high.

Richton dropped their record down to 3-16 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Greene County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Richton and Greene County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings. Richton will challenge Mize at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 149 places (227 vs. 78). Meanwhile, Greene County (ranked 138th) will meet Sumrall (ranked 17th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
