Basketball Recap: North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Phoenix Preparatory Academy). They took down the Heritage Academy Heroes 35-18 on Thursday. The win was familiar territory for the Gladiators who have now won three contests in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Phoenix Preparatory Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lainey Wakeham, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Wakeham has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Daniel, who posted five points in addition to six boards and three steals.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage Academy lost, don't look at Nancy James. Despite the final result, she put up two points along with nine rebounds, six blocks, and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Delight Maple, who had six points and six boards.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Heritage Academy, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-20 victory against Desert Heights Prep on the 13th. Heritage Academy will take on Scottsdale Preparatory Academy in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
