Basketball Recap: John Milledge Academy Takes a Loss

John Milledge Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 74-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Piedmont Academy Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 60-50 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2022.

Marissa Holder was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 29 points, 11 boards, and 11 steals for Piedmont Academy. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Holder has scored at least a third of Piedmont Academy's points. Sarah Ellen Stroud was another key player, going 8 for 13 on her way to 22 points and five assists.

John Milledge Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Piedmont Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

John Milledge Academy and Deerfield-Windsor will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Piedmont Academy, they will take on First Presbyterian Day at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Piedmont Academy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
