Basketball Game Preview: Spanish Fork Dons vs. Maple Mountain Golden Eagles

Spanish Fork is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Friday. They will welcome the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Spanish Fork turned things around against Hunter on Tuesday. They strolled past the Wolverines with points to spare, taking the game 61-47.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maple Mountain). They claimed a resounding 72-34 win over Granger. While the Golden Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Maple Mountain's win came from a few key players Spanish Fork will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Solomon Krommenhoek, who shot 50% from the field en route to 16 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Nash Jackson was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Maple Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Spanish Fork's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Spanish Fork barely slipped by Maple Mountain in their previous matchup back in January, winning 48-47. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
