Softball Game Preview: Quincy Blue Devils vs. Granite City Warriors

The Quincy Blue Devils will challenge the Granite City Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Quincy will be strutting in after a win while Granite City will be coming in after a loss.

While Quincy's victory against Illini West wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Chargers on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Devils as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Izzy Weppler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Quincy let Ivy Winter and Maggie Neally run wild. Winter went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Neally went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Winter has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Granite City suffered their closest defeat since April 8th on Thursday. They fell just short of Marquette Catholic by a score of 8-6. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Granite City's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Quincy, their win bumped their record up to 7-15.

Quincy was able to grind out a solid victory over Granite City in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 19-14. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
