Baseball Game Preview: St. Anthony Saints vs. Cathedral Phantoms

For the second straight game, St. Anthony will face off against Cathedral. The Saints will venture away from home to square off against the Phantoms at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Anthony will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

St. Anthony proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Cathedral 3-2.

For Cathedral's part, Nicholas Overton was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Overton has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cathedral saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was J.T. Marquez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Cathedral dropped their record down to 9-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for St. Anthony, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.

Both St. Anthony and Cathedral just can't seem to miss. The Saints have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Cathedral struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits.
