Baseball Recap: Long Branch Green Wave vs. Holmdel Hornets
Long Branch extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-7 in the process. They lost 14-4 to the Holmdel Hornets. If the Green Wave were looking for revenge after losing 18-4 to the Hornets when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Noah Hoogmoed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Campbell, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Holmdel, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Holmdel's side, Nick Rakoski was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Rakoski a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameron Estok, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Long Branch will welcome Keansburg at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Holmdel, they will face off against Freehold Boro at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets are facing the Colonials at the right time seeing as the Colonials are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
