Softball Recap: Highland Park Comes Up Short

Highland Park couldn't beat Sanford-Fritch on Tuesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Hornets lost 24-8 to the Eagles. The Hornets just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

Kaitlin Lucas was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 12 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and 11 unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Lucas wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maritzah Felix, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Highland Park's record is now 5-17-1. As for Sanford-Fritch, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Looking ahead, Highland Park will venture away from home to face off against Sunray at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Bobcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Sanford-Fritch, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-0 victory against Follett on the 17th.
