Softball Game Preview: Union City Soaring Eagles vs. Dickinson Rams

Union City is a perfect 3-0 against Dickinson since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Soaring Eagles will host the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Dickinson took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Union City, who comes in off a win.

While Union City's win against Elmwood Park wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Soaring Eagles had just enough and edged out the Crusaders 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Soaring Eagles have posted since April 16th.

Jayla Colon was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Montenegro, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Dickinson was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They came up short against Ferris, falling 20-2. The loss continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.

The win made it two in a row for Union City and bumps their season record up to 4-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Dickinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dickinson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Union City's way against Dickinson in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, as Union City made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Soaring Eagles repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
