Football Game Preview: Gibbon Buffaloes vs. Superior Wildcats

The Gibbon Buffaloes will challenge the Superior Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gibbon's offense hasn't had much luck over their past four games, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gibbon's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Fillmore Central on Friday. They had to suffer through a 49-0 loss at the hands of the Panthers.

Meanwhile, Superior scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Wood River. The Wildcats were up 20 in the second, but they couldn't quite seal the deal.

Gibbon will need to focus on slowing down Kyler Boyles, one of several Superior players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 87 receiving yards and one TD. Boyles really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 87 yards. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Sander, who threw for 196 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 passes.

Even if they lost, Superior's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Boyles, Dayne Clark, and Justice Sander, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Wood River's side was Kamden Boyles, who made 13 total tackles and defended one pass.

Superior's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Gibbon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Gibbon came up short against Superior in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 23-19. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Boyles, who rushed for 141 yards and three scores.
