Softball Preview: Pope County Pirates vs. Dongola Demons

Pope County has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Dongola Demons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Pope County needed a bit of extra time to put away Norris City-Omaha-Enfield. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fighting Cardinals and snuck past 3-2.

MADDIE WALKER spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Pope County's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was RYLEE ALLEN, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Dongola owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They had just enough and edged Cobden out 1-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for Dongola.

Pope County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season. As for Dongola, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7.

Everything went Pope County's way against Dongola in their previous meeting back in March as Pope County made off with a 12-0 victory.
