Baseball Recap: Lordsburg Takes a Loss

Lordsburg extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Mescalero Apache Chiefs. The Mavericks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chiefs earlier this season, when they won 9-6.

As for Mescalero Apache, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Mescalero Apache's part, Matthew Damon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Damon also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mescalero Apache is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-12 otherwise. Damon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Anthony Yuzos was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Mescalero Apache is 4-1 when Yuzos posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Ferron BigHunter was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Lordsburg nor Mescalero Apache have any future games scheduled.
