Baseball Recap: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Chapin Eagles
Spring Valley extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 7-13 in the process. They lost 12-2 to the Chapin Eagles. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2015.
Spring Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Smoak, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
As for Chapin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Chapin's side, Charlie Mejia tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Mejia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chapin got a massive performance out of Cambell Todd, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Todd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ty Harper, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Spring Valley will be playing at home against American Leadership Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chapin, they will head out on the road to face off against White Knoll at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
