Softball Preview: Northwestern Trojans vs. Fort Mill Yellow Jackets
Northwestern is 1-9 against Fort Mill since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will welcome the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. Fort Mill took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Northwestern, who comes in off a win.
Northwestern headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but South Pointe let them put that streak behind them. The Trojans never let the Stallions get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Stallions: they've now won six in a row.
Abby Williams made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lyla Seibert and Aubrey Sarna did most of the damage at the plate: Seibert scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1, while Sarna scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Seibert a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Pendergraph, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Northwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Mill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 8-1 to Cuthbertson.
Fort Mill saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Rosario, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Northwestern's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Fort Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
