Basketball Recap: Tolleson Wolverines vs. Apollo Hawks
Tolleson lost against Apollo back in November of 2016 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Tolleson Wolverines came up short against the Apollo Hawks, falling 46-25.
Despite the loss, Tolleson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Clemmonique Cheatham posted eight points.
Apollo was led to victory by Meliyah Morning and Meekah Nunez. Morning went 8 for 14 on her way to 19 points and six steals, while Nunez dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds. Nunez is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. Murryah Crump was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six boards and six steals.
Tolleson has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Apollo, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-7.
Tolleson will venture away from home to take on Valley Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Apollo has already played their next game (against Shadow Ridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
