Baseball Recap: Pojoaque Valley Gets the Win

Pojoaque Valley won the last time they faced Espanola Valley and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Elks came out on top against the Sundevils by a score of 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Elks.

Ezekiel Atencio and Jose Lujan made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Atencio tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lujan struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Atencio went 3-for-5 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Lujan went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Andres Trevizo was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mateo Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Pojoaque Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Espanola Valley only posted an OBP of .286.

Pojoaque Valley's record is now 6-14. As for Espanola Valley, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pojoaque Valley will challenge rival Taos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Espanola Valley is set to square off against their familiar foe Moriarty at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
