Basketball Recap: Douglas Skates Past Tombstone with Ease

Douglas won the last time they faced Tombstone and things went their way on Thursday too. The Douglas Bulldogs blew past the Tombstone Yellow Jackets 59-28. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 31 points or more this season.

Douglas had a senior duo take command as Francia Rubio went 7 of 10 on her way to 14 points along with five steals and five blocks and Scarlette Ruiz went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points and six steals. Ruiz has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyra Espinosa, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Tombstone lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rachel Thursby, who had 17 points. Damaris Alvarez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Douglas pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 49.8 points. As for Tombstone, they moved to 9-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Douglas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-23 win against Florence on the 13th. As for Tombstone, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-16 victory against San Miguel on the 13th.
