Softball Recap: Lafayette Rams vs. Smithfield Packers
Lafayette extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 36 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They came up short against the Smithfield Packers, falling 25-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Packers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in March.
Lafayette saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kelsi Isaksen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Taylor Durran also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for Smithfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
On Smithfield's side, Cheyenne Debusk was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Debusk a new career-high.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Lafayette will take on rival Jamestown at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Smithfield is set to square off against their familiar foe Tabb at 4:00 p.m. on the 13th.
