Softball Recap: West Lincoln Has No Trouble Against East Burke

West Lincoln never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against East Burke on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 13-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won nine in a row.

Gabrielle Wright made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Carpenter and Stacia Cowan did most of the damage at the plate: Carpenter scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Cowan scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Kaylin Pardo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

West Lincoln's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Burke, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Looking ahead, West Lincoln will take on R-S Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hilltoppers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Rebels surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Burke, they will face off against West Caldwell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
