Baseball Game Preview: Irmo Yellow Jackets vs. Midland Valley Mustangs

Irmo is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Midland Valley an eight-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Irmo Yellow Jackets will welcome the Midland Valley Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Midland Valley took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Irmo, who comes in off a win.

Irmo took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Airport, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Yellow Jackets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 4-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellow Jackets as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Cooper Starling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Irmo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan White, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run. Ty Rivers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

North Augusta hit Midland Valley with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly five runs.

Midland Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19-1. As for Irmo, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
