Softball Preview: San Dieguito Academy Mustangs vs. Oceanside Pirates

After both having extra time off, the San Dieguito Academy Mustangs and the Oceanside Pirates will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Dieguito Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Oceanside will be coming in after a defeat.

San Dieguito Academy was handed a two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lincoln last Thursday. San Dieguito Academy never let Lincoln onto the board and left with a 10-0 win.

Sophia Rea made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Rea was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Hannah Barker was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Kegan Herceg was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Oceanside was a bit more limited in their matchup two weeks ago. They fell 7-2 to Torrey Pines. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Oceanside has scored all season.

Oceanside saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nalia Nuanez, who went 2-for-4 with a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Pantoja, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with an RBI.

San Dieguito Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3-1.

San Dieguito Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Oceanside in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Dieguito Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
