Baseball Game Preview: Lubbock Westerners vs. Amarillo Sandies

The Lubbock Westerners will challenge the Amarillo Sandies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lubbock comes in on three and Amarillo on four.

Lubbock will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Monterey, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Lubbock narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Monterey 4-2.

Ivan McGwier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since March 1st.

On the hitting side, Lubbock's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Rosendo, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Amarillo got themselves on the board against Caprock on Friday, but Caprock never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Longhorns. The Sandies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Lubbock's win bumped their record up to 14-6-1. As for Amarillo, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8-1.

Lubbock came up short against Amarillo when the teams last played back in April of 2019, falling 8-3. Can Lubbock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
