Softball Recap: Oxford Find Success

Oxford's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with a 13-8 win over Southaven. Oxford hasn't had any issues with Southaven recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Mary-Claire King was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Jacei Clark and Jayla Dukes did most of the damage at the plate: Clark went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI, while Dukes went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Clark a new career-high.

Oxford's win bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Southaven, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.

Looking ahead, Oxford will head out on the road to take on Hernando at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. Southaven does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
