West Bladen is 2-8 against Midway since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Knights will host the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. West Bladen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
West Bladen took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Clinton get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. Considering the Knights have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Brady Durden's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Bladen let Tyler Lewis and JT Hepler run wild. Lewis went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI, while Hepler went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Dunham, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Midway earned a 9-5 win over Fairmont on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Golden Tornadoes: they've now won five in a row.
Wyatt Herring was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Herring was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Wyatt Scott was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Wilson Mayo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
West Bladen's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Midway, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
West Bladen beat Midway 6-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
