Basketball Recap: Maddox Woolverton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valley over Fort Lupton

Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. The game between the Vikings and the Fort Lupton Bluedevils didn't end well, with the Vikings falling 83-67. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Bluedevils are ranked 80th).

Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Maddox Woolverton, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine assists. Caleb Dudley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards.

As for Fort Lupton, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.5 points over those games.

Javon Gonzales was a one-man wrecking crew as he dropped a triple-double with 18 points, 11 assists, and 11 steals. What's more, he racked up eight rebounds, the most he's had since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Donte Lenox, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 19 points and five steals.

Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-40 defeat against The Academy on the 12th. As for Fort Lupton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-52 win against Sterling on the 12th.
