California high school football: Statewide top 25 scoreboard

No. 5 Orange Lutheran will battle No. 4 St. John Bosco in game of the week.

This week's high school football schedule in California is headlined by No. 5 Orange Lutheran (Orange) taking on No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) in the Trinity League opener for both teams.

St. John Bosco is undefeated at 5-0 while Orange Lutheran is 4-1 with the loss coming to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), the No. 5 team in the country.

The game features a pair of quarterbacks playing at a high level. Junior Matai Fuiava has thrown 13 touchdown passes for Bosco. Nebraska commit T.J. Lateef has thrown for 1,107 yards and 13 scores for Orange Lutheran while completing 70 percent of his attempts.

No. 13 Servite (Anaheim) will battle No. 6 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) in a matchup of undefeated Trinity League squads.

Servite is coming off a 33-14 win over St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs). Aided by a powerful rushing attack, senior Quaid Carr had two touchdowns while junior Gavin Gutierrez had another score on the ground.

JSerra Catholic roared to a 28-6 halftime lead before defeating Damien (La Verne) 49-21 last week. Quarterback Ryan Hopkins continued his stellar junior season by passing for two touchdowns. Sophomore running back William Fredericksen had a pair of rushing scores in the game and five on the season.



In another matchup between 5-0 teams, No. 19 Inglewood will play No. 10 Leuzinger (Lawndale) this week.

The Leuzinger defense has allowed just 56 points this season with two shutouts. Last week the Olympians intercepted five passes in a 61-0 win over Hawthorne.

Since going 0-10 in 2018, Inglewood has gone 53-6. Junior running backs Victor Santino and Austyn Tillman lead a run game that averages 222 yards per game. The Sentinels also have a knack for getting to the quarterback and average more than five sacks a game. Senior Lucien Holland paces the team with 8.5 sacks.

On Saturday No. 18 Los Alamitos makes a trip south to play No. 16 Lincoln (San Diego) in a matchup of two-loss squads. The Los Alamitos defense has allowed just 34 total points in four victories this season.

Lincoln is coming off a trip to Sacramento where the Hornets defeated Grant (Sacramento) 49-19. Senior four-star Oregon commit Akili Smith Jr. led several scoring drives despite finishing the game with just one touchdown. Running backs Aden Jackson and Junior Curtis each rushed for two scores.

In Northern California, Los Gatos will face No. 14 Pittsburg. Los Gatos is undefeated at 4-0 with solid wins over Soquel and Liberty (Brentwood).

Pittsburg (3-1) ripped off three straight wins before running into powerhouse St. John Bosco. Pittsburg was in that game late in the third, trailing 21-14 before the Braves scored two late touchdowns to win 35-14. Senior Marley Alcantara has passed for nine touchdowns this year and three of those went to freshman Kenneth Ward, who has 171 receiving yards this season.
