Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Javonte Spencer and Drew Fitzwater Lead Greater Beckley Christian to Victory

After losing to Midland Trail the last time they met, Greater Beckley Christian decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders came out on top against the Midland Trail Patriots by a score of 59-49 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Crusaders.

Leading Greater Beckley Christian to victory were Drew Fitzwater and Javonte Spencer. Fitzwater almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards, while Spencer went 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and three steals. Fitzwater is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games he's played. Josh Garlow also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Thad Brown and Payton Bailes certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Brown went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points, while Bailes posted 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Camryn Thomas, who had four points.

Greater Beckley Christian pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for Midland Trail, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Greater Beckley Christian has already played their next contest, a 75-47 victory against Webster County on the 28th. As for Midland Trail, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 84-39 win against Greenbrier West on the 29th.
