Nebraska State Player of the Year: Sean Fisher- Millard North

Class B Player of the Year: John Leverson- Crete

Class C-1 Player of the Year: Eric Koehlmoos- Pierce (Jr.)

Class C-2 Player of the Year: Lance Shifflet- Cambridge

First Team All-State Offense

QB: Jesse VerVelde- Millard West

VerVelde led the Millard West resurgence by throwing for 1,897 yards on 110-of-192 passing for 18 touchdowns. In the rushing department, VerVelde added 712 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Wildcats. Millard West entered the 2007 season as relative unknowns before reeling off victories against Creighton Prep, Lincoln Southwest, Omaha North, and Millard North to start the season, all teams amongst the discussion to become Class A state champions.

B: Nick Failla- Millard North (Jr.)

Failla is another stellar option quarterback for the Mustangs, following in the footsteps of 2001 Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch and John McCardle. Both Crouch and McCardle put in record-setting performances while at Millard North. Had it not been for a knee injury in the playoffs, Failla would have pushed McCardle's Class A state record of 2,355 rushing yards. As a junior, Failla rushed for 1,845 yards and 25 touchdowns for the Mustangs. With a healthy Failla returning in 2008, Millard North could be the favorite to win its first state title since 2005.

RB: Collins Okafor- Omaha Westside

Okafor, committed to Nebraska, exploded onto the scene as a junior with 1,885 rushing yards while leading the Warriors to the Class A final. As a senior, Okafor did not disappoint, adding 1,525 yards and 17 touchdowns to his resume' in just 10 games. Okafor's team was ousted in the first round of the state playoffs, but Okafor will move onto a Big XII program on the cusp of great things.

RB: Rustin Dring- Kearney

Dring was one of the major reasons why Kearney was able to win its first state title in 2006. As a senior, Dring was unable to help the Bearcats repeat after suffering an injury in the playoffs, but Dring's contributions through the regular season were too difficult to ignore. Dring set the school record in career rushing yards and rushed for 1,221 yards and 23 touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry.

WR: Ty Kildow- Millard South (Jr.)

Kildow defines the term "big play receiver". The 5-8, 170 junior hauled in 44 passes for 976 yards and 10 touchdowns for Millard South this past season. Kildow also rushed for 303 yards on just 13 attempts for the Patriots. On defense, Kildow picked off three passes and checked in with 32 tackles. Kildow also added two kickoff returns and a punt return for a score to his laundry list of stellar statistics.

WR: Jake Drwal- Millard West

When players like VerVelde had somebody like Drwal to rely on, it made his job easier. Drwal was another big play threat for Millard West, latching onto 52 catches for 1,056 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Wildcats. Drwal also added a 55-yard punt return for a score in a 62-25 victory over Omaha Bryan to open the Class A state playoffs. Drwal has been invited by Nebraska to walk-on.

TE: Tim Biere- Omaha Westside

Biere, committed to Kansas, hauled in 21 receptions for 303 yards. Biere also excelled in the defensive backfield, forcing match up problems as a 6-4, 235-pound free safety. Biere registered 55 tackles and three interceptions for the Warriors.

OL: Baker Steinkuhler- Lincoln Southwest

Steinkuhler was named the state player of the year by Gatorade in November. The 6-6, 295-pound senior and son of Nebraska legend Dean Steinkuhler will follow in his father's footsteps to Lincoln after a stellar high school career. Steinkuhler recorded 72 tackles and 3.5 sacks on defense for Southwest this past season. CSTV recruiting guru Tom Lemming has Steinkuhler rated as the 33rd top prospect in the country.

OL: Trevor Robinson- Elkhorn

In early December, Robinson verbally committed to Notre Dame after originally committing to Nebraska. Michigan was also in the running for the 6-5, 300-pound lineman. Robinson was a major reason why Elkhorn was able to average 407.9 yards per game on offense in its 10-1 campaign. Robinson, ranked as the 67th top prospect nationally by CSTV, also had 42 tackles while playing defensive tackle for the Antlers.

OL: Brian Thorson- Millard North
When a team averages 336.5 yards of rushing, obviously a solid offensive line plays into it. Thorson was the leader of the line for Millard North as a senior on the top rushing team in the state of Nebraska. Thorson, who is committed to Buffalo, paved the way for two rushers that went over 1,000 yards in quarterback Nick Failla and fullback Rob Pirnie.

OL: Cole Pensick- Lincoln Northeast (Jr.)

Pensick may be a little undersized at 250 pounds, but his presence is much bigger for Lincoln Northeast. Pensick was a major reason why Northeast running back Tyler Collier rushed for over 1,300 yards in 10 games. Pensick is a two-time Super State selection by the Lincoln Journal-Star and still has another year to go. Pensick could be another big-time recruit out of the Cornhusker state in the Class of 2009.

OL: Matt Woster- Omaha Central

Woster led the offensive line for the Class A state champions as Omaha Central won its first crown since 1984. Central rushed for 223 yards per game, led by running back Ronnell Grixby. Woster was a two-year starter at center for the Eagles and was named first-team All-State in Class A according to the Associated Press and the Omaha World-Herald.

ATH: Eric Koehlmoos- Pierce (Jr.)

Koehlmoos led Pierce to its first state football title since 1978 after rushing for 1,326 yards and 31 touchdowns. Koehlmoos also threw for 695 yards and seven touchdowns while operating as the part-time quarterback. Koehlmoos rushed for more than 1,300 yards for the second straight season and will return in 2008 for the Bluejays.

K: Brett Maher- Kearney

Maher could have been an All-State honoree at wide receiver, too. Maher was the quarterback at Utica Centennial as a junior before transferring to Kearney for his senior year. Maher moved to receiver for the Bearcats, caught 40 passes for 775 yards, and scored 10 touchdowns. Maher connected on 8-of-14 field goals and averaged 41.2 yards per punt.

First Team All-State Defense

DL: Nick Phillips- Omaha North

Phillips, standing at just 5-9, was a wrecking ball on the defensive line for Omaha North. The senior logged 36 solo tackles and had 23 tackles for loss for the Vikings. Phillips was a two-time All-State selection by the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star.

DL: Tyrone Sellers- McCook (Jr.)

Sellers will be one of the top recruits in the entire state next season after registering 51 solo tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. On offense, Sellers reeled in seven touchdown passes on just 13 receptions for McCook's run-first offensive attack. Sellers has already been offered by Kansas State and has a host of Big XII schools monitoring his progress.

DL: Colin McDermott- Omaha Creighton Prep

McDermott registered 57 assisted tackles and 40 of the solo variety for the Junior Jays as a senior. McDermott showed his athleticism by also picking up four quarterback sacks and two interceptions.

LB: Trent Goodman-
Omaha Westside

Goodman is the third First Team All-State honoree from Omaha Westside. Goodman logged 113 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and two sacks for the Warriors as a senior. As a fullback on offense, Goodman had over 400 total yards and helped pave the way for running back Collins Okafor, who rushed for over 1,500 yards.

LB: Eric Ringblom- Millard North

Ringblom, along with Sean Fisher, were disruptive on the defensive unit for the Mustangs. As a team, Millard North allowed just 66.8 yards of rushing per game, with the 6-3, 235 pound being one of the main reasons. Ringblom was named First Team All-State by the Omaha World-Herald and Associated Press, and has a host of Division I schools monitoring him. Don't be surprised if he picks up a late offer near Signing Day.

LB: Nick Neneman- Omaha North

Neneman, at just 5-9, 170 pounds, played much bigger than his tiny frame at linebacker for Omaha North. Neneman picked up 68 tackles, three sacks, and seven tackles for loss. Neneman also reeled in four touchdown passes while playing tight end for the Vikings. Northwest Missouri State and Nebraska-Omaha, two of the top Division II programs, are both in on Neneman.

LB: Sam Meginnis- Lincoln East
Meginnis
led Lincoln East's defensive unit, which allowed 234.6 yards per game as the Spartans were one of the surprises of the season, finishing with an 8-2 record. The 6-2, 215-pound standout as been receiving heavy interest from a host of Division I schools. Meginnis finished his senior campaign with 84 tackles and two fumble recoveries as the Spartans allowed just 12.4 points per game on the season.

DB: Ronnell Grixby- Omaha Central

Grixby was arguably the main reason why Omaha Central was able to win its first state title since 1984. On offense, Grixby rushed for 1,310 yards and 19 touchdowns while being an amicable pass-catching option out of the backfield with 392 receiving yards and four touchdowns. On defense, Grixby played full-time in the playoffs, logging 15 tackles and a fumble recovery in the state final. Iowa, Colorado State, and Ohio are recruiting Grixby.

DB:
Jordan Hale- Millard South (Jr.)

Hale is another junior All-State honoree for Millard South. Just like his Kildow, Hale was a big-play waiting to happen for the Patriots. Hale had 32 grabs for 571 yards and rushed for 369 yards. On defense, Hale picked up 51 tackles and registered seven tackles for loss. Hale was named First-Team Super State by the Lincoln Journal-Star.

DB: John Leverson- Crete

Leverson, the MaxPreps Class B Player of the Year, was stellar on both sides of the ball while leading Crete to the state title for the second straight season. On offense, the Nebraska commit rushed for 1,158 yards while throwing for 738. Defensively, Leverson logged 92 tackles, had six interceptions, and three fumble recoveries.

DB: Shaun Prater- Omaha Central

Prater, verbally committed to Iowa, picked off five passes for the Class A state champions to go along with 89 tackles. Prater is also a standout in track, running a 21.5-second 200-meter dash to finish third in the state in 2007. Prater's twin brother Shane recently committed to follow his brother to Iowa despite a late push for both by Nebraska.

ATH: Sean Fisher- Millard North
It is not often when schools like Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Arizona State are sniffing around the Omaha-metro for talent. That was the case with the 6-5, 210-pound Fisher, who projects as a linebacker at the next level. Nebraska eventually won Fisher's committed. Playing safety for the Mustangs, Fisher had 68 tackles and three tackles for loss. Offensively when quarterback Nick Failla was out with injury, Fisher carried the offensive load. In the state final loss to Omaha Central, Fisher had 44 carries for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Fisher also logged Millard North's only reception in the final, taking it 23 yards for a touchdown. For the season, Fisher rushed for 640 yards.

P: Slade Bolles-
Grand Island

Bolles was also a two-year starter at linebacker for the Islanders. As the punter, Bolles averaged 42.3 per kick and had three punts travel over 70 yards. Bolles also is a solid basketball and baseball player for Grand Island.

Second Team All-State Offense

QB: Tyler Seals- Bellevue West (Jr.)

Seals exploded with 2,424 yards passing and 31 touchdowns for the Thunderbirds.

RB: Tyler Collier- Lincoln Northeast

Collier rushed for 1,367 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games for the Rockets.

RB: Jordan Makovicka- East Butler

Makovicka rushed for 1,912 yards for Class C-2 East Butler, his second season over 1,900 rushing yards.
RB: Lance Shifflet- Cambridge

Shifflet, the MaxPreps Class C-2 Player of the Year, rushed for 2,103 yards for Cambridge.
WR: Justin Coleman- Beatrice (Jr.)

On just 25 receptions, Coleman had 609 yards and four touchdowns and made his presence felt as a kick returner for the Orangemen, averaging 31.6 yards per return.

WR: Greg Hardin- Bellevue West (Jr.)

Hardin hooked up with Seals often, with 1,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.

OL: Mike Yardley- Lincoln East

Yardley helped the Spartans averaged 264 yards per game of offense.
OL: Justin Jackson- Norris

Jackson, at 6-4, 250 pounds, was a force for the Titans.
OL: Craig Herman- Millard West

Herman paved the way for Jesse VerVelde and Tyler Davis for the Wildcats.
OL: Nick Norys- Millard North

At 6-6, 325 pounds, Norys was a huge for the Mustangs run-happy attack.
OL: John Becklun- Omaha Gross

Gross finished the season with a 10-1 record and a 1,200-yard rusher thanks to Becklun.

K: Tyler Hargrave- Chadron (Jr.)

Hargrave was one of the top kickers in the state for the Class C-1 Bulldogs, nailing 8-of-9 field goal attempts.

Second Team All-State Defense

DL: Brian Hegert- Kearney

Hegert, along with Drew Tickle, led the defense for the Bearcats.
DL: Kenny Anderson- Millard West

Anderson logged 13 sacks for the Wildcats in 2007.
DL: Gerald Donahue- Millard North

Millard North's defense was one of the best around, and Donahue was disruptive on the line for the Mustangs.
LB: Conor McDermott-
Omaha Creighton Prep

McDermott had 64 solo tackles, eight for loss, and two interceptions for the Junior Jays.
LB: Marcus Smith- Crete

Smith had 76 solo tackles and 68 assisted stops for the Class B state champions.
LB: C.J. Zimmerer- Omaha Gross (Jr.)

Zimmerer, just a junior, will be one of the top recruits in the state next season. Gross allowed just 199 yards per game in 2007.
DB: Joel Nixon-
Wakefield

Nixon led Wakefield to its second straight Class C-2 title this season.

DB: Chris Griffin- Omaha Central

Griffin threw for 1,672 yards and 22 scores, rushed for five touchdowns, and picked off a pass in the state final victory.
DB: Drew Tickle- Kearney

Tickle was a key component in Kearney's recent success, including the 2006 state title in Class A. Tickle had six interceptions for the Bearcats.
P: Tyler Daake- Norfolk Catholic (Jr.)

Daake is also a standout kicker for Norfolk Catholic.
