Basketball Recap: Valley Christian Piles Up the Points Against Republic

It was a proper cat-fight when Valley Christian took on Republic on Friday. The Valley Christian Panthers blew past the Republic Tigers 73-43. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Noah Burns, who posted 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Burns' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Harrison Arnold, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 22 points and seven boards.

Valley Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Republic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Landon Short dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Short is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last 17 games he's played. Helio Songhand was another key player, putting up five points and five assists.

Valley Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Republic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.

As of now, neither Valley Christian nor Republic have any future games scheduled.
