Softball Recap: Francis W. Parker Takes a Loss

Francis W. Parker extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-4 in the process. They lost 20-2 to the Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-1 on April 4th.

Francis W. Parker saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sloane Demetriou, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

As for Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2-1. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won nine matchups by 13 runs or more so far this season.

On Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park's side, Rebecca Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gonzalez has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Alyssa Lopez was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Rosie Lara was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Francis W. Parker will challenge Regina Dominican at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park, they will take on Peotone at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
