Softball Game Preview: Escalon Cougars vs. Sonora Wildcats

The Escalon Cougars will face off against the Sonora Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Escalon is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Escalon will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Ripon, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Escalon let Arianna Velasco and Madison Babasa run wild. Velasco went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Babasa went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Babasa a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyla Holback, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Escalon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.

Meanwhile, Sonora earned a 5-2 victory over Venture Academy on Friday.

Escalon's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Sonora, their victory bumped their record up to 2-19-1.

Everything went Escalon's way against Sonora when the teams last played back in March, as Escalon made off with a 22-2 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
