Basketball Game Preview: Desert Vista Thunder vs. O'Connor Eagles

Desert Vista and O'Connor are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2015, but not for long. The Desert Vista Thunder are taking a road trip to challenge the O'Connor Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Desert Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.

Desert Vista fought the good fight in their overtime match against Xavier College Prep on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 44-36 to the Gators. The Thunder haven't had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Trinity Jones, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaire 'Cherri' Hatter, who scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, O'Connor faced Pinnacle in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. O'Connor took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pinnacle.

O'Connor's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-8. As for Desert Vista, their record is now 11-11.

Everything went Desert Vista's way against O'Connor in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, as Desert Vista made off with a 74-48 win. Does Desert Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will O'Connor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
