Softball Game Preview: Cortez Colts vs. Tempe Buffaloes

For the second straight game, Cortez will face off against Tempe. The Colts will head out on the road to take on the Buffaloes at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cortez has given up an average of 14.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cortez managed to slip by Tempe the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Colts came up short against the Buffaloes on Monday, falling 21-11. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

For Tempe's part, Hilana Valencia and Celeste Alvarez did most of the damage at the plate: Valencia got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Alvarez scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Alvarez has posted since back in February of 2024. Maribella Rivera was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

The win (which was Tempe's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs. As for Cortez, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-6.
