League recap: Central Valley climbs in state rankings with win

Central Valley moved up to 318 from 494 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Northern. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of topping Corning 51-14.

Lassen took down Anderson 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nathan Freeman threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two yards in the win.

Yreka's dynamic duo of Kaden Culp and Stevie Albers proved tough for West Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Culp threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns and Albers had 105 yards receiving. Tyler Currie helped Yreka's passing attack out by catching four balls for 68 yards.

Brady Casselman was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 210 yards as the Eagles fell to the Eagles. Marcus Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.

6-foot-0 quarterback Culp of Yreka is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1029. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, West Valley's Casselman has rushed for 663 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Frank Shepherd. The Lassen star has 28 catches for 396 yards.

A big matchup in Northern this week will be when Greg Grandell's team takes on the Grizzlies. At the moment, the Eagles are in second, while Lassen is in third.

There should be lots of points scored when West Valley and Tom St. Jacques' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Eagles comes in having scored 210 this season, while the Grizzlies have scored 167. West Valley scored 35 points last week as it beat Orlyn Culp's team.

Central Valley made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,841 from 6,424. The improvement came about via a 51-14 victory over the Cardinals last week.
