Basketball Recap: Hearne Finds Playoff Glory Versus Santa Maria

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hearne had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 75-47 victory over the Santa Maria Cougars. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Hearne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kellen Bowser out in front who to rack up 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Zayden Mercer was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and seven steals.

Hearne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 24 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Hearne is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points over those games. Santa Maria's loss dropped their record down to 17-11.

Looking ahead, Hearne will square off against Port Aransas at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Port Aransas will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Hearne surely won't give up without a fight. Santa Maria does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
